Becoming
Dec 2016 - March 2017, Tweed Regional Gallery CAEP, Mc Naughton Focus Gallery.
In this body of work I merge fantasy and fairy stories with sci fi and wild theories of quantum physics. Parallel universes are colliding, slowly; almost imperceptive but impossible to halt. The known kingdoms of flora and fauna are melding with fantastical creatures; but in the subtlest way – one does not see at first the wrapping of a mermaid’s tail around the stem of an iris – nor the incursion of a carpet snake in the branches of a golden penda tree. The petals and stamens of flowers are enlarging – flowers are genitalia and in this world they are the mothers of many creatures, distributing seeds and genes amongst flora and fauna, both ‘real’ and ‘becoming’ real.
